Public access to buildings (11.2.1)

Óvári Vár (Óvári Castle), home to the Albert Kázmér Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences, is a historic cultural heritage building that is accessible to the public. The castle serves both educational and cultural functions, providing visitors with access to a monument of local and regional significance. Public access to the castle courtyard, the park surrounding the building, the lake, the castle gate, and the bridge are open to public and can be visited free of charge.

The University’s Concert Hall is one of the city’s most significant cultural heritage buildings and an important public cultural venue. Built in 1868–1870, the octagonal, domed synagogue is an outstanding example of Central European Neolog religious architecture. Since its renovation in 2003, Széchenyi István University has used the building as the home of its Faculty of Arts and as a public concert hall. The concert hall is regularly opened to the public free of charge. The university’s Faculty of Arts organises concerts, recitals and cultural events in the synagogue throughout the year, most of them with free admission. Examples include the “Classical Music Evenings in the Győr Synagogue” series, supported by the National Cultural Fund, the “Guitar and Friends” concert series, or book presentations. The hall also hosts free concerts by local community ensembles, such as the Győr Symphonic Band and the Győr Teachers’ Choir, some of them supported by the City of Győr. The university ensures free entry to the concert hall.
