The Equal Opportunities Plan (2025–2027)
The Equal Opportunities Plan (2025–2027) explicitly prohibits all forms of discrimination and guarantees equal treatment regardless of age, sex, race, skin colour, nationality, mother tongue, disability, health status, religion or belief, political opinion, family status, sexual orientation, gender identity, social origin, financial status or any other personal characteristic. Széchenyi István University pays special attention to:
- social solidarity (Társadalmi szolidaritás, p. 5)
- ensuring equal access to educational opportunities (egyenlő eséllyel hozzáférhető, egész életen át tartó tanulás, p. 9)
- promoting equal access to education and training programmes, including lifelong learning and professional development (Oktatási, képzési programokhoz való egyenlő hozzáférés elősegítése – Promoting equal access to education and training programmes; Institutional objectives, Objective 9, p. 6); and
- ensuring physical accessibility of university buildings and services (Akadálymentesítés biztosítása – Ensuring accessibility, p. 6).
Application to lifelong learning activities
The Equal Opportunities Plan (2025-2027) applies to all organisational units and activities of the University. Access to the lifelong learning activities described in this section – the public library services (4.3.1), public lectures and events (4.3.2), continuing education and micro-credential programmes (4.3.3) and educational outreach activities (4.3.4) – is therefore open to all, regardless of ethnicity, religion, disability, immigration status or gender. Nationality, race, religion or belief, disability and sex are explicitly protected grounds, and the Plan also covers “any other personal characteristic”, which extends its protection to participants regardless of their immigration or refugee status.
The same principle is set out in the rules of individual services. The University Library and Archives’ Library Rules and Regulations (Article 3) state that library services may be used by anyone who complies with the Library regulations and requires information or specialised literature. The Library also offers dedicated equal-opportunity services for users with disabilities, including text-reading devices and an accessible version of the Library website for visually impaired users. Public lectures and events take place in university buildings with barrier-free entrances and lifts.
