Promote sustainable commuting (11.4.2)

Széchenyi István University provides students with access to bicycle parking facilities through its university Student Card Registration system. After registering their student card, university citizens can use the designated bicycle parking services in an organized and controlled manner. By providing accessible and dedicated facilities for bicycle storage, the university supports cycling as a practical, convenient, and sustainable way for students to commute to and from campus.

The Sustainability Strategy 2022–2030 defines further actions: promoting carpooling, a sustainable mobility hub with bicycle facilities and showers, and charging infrastructure for electric vehicles, scooters and bicycles.

Széchenyi István University actively organizes and hosts conferences on special topics related to sustainability. In 2025, the university in collaboration with the Transport Science Association organised the XV. International Transport Science Conference. The topics were related, among other areas, to traffic safety, sustainable transport, transport infrastructure development, and public transport planning management.

In 2025, Széchenyi István University organized a traffic-safety conference that brought together experts to discuss current transport-safety challenges, including the increasing use of e-scooters, related accidents, infrastructure, and the need for appropriate regulation. By addressing the safety and regulatory conditions affecting e-scooters and other forms of micro-mobility, the university contributed to creating a safer environment for sustainable commuting options.
